Pastor of the World-Renowned Journey Within SNU Church, Rev. Joseph Shiel is a compassionate minister and a highly acclaimed Evidential Medium, Spirit Portrait Artist and Spiritual Teacher. Internationally known for his accuracy, integrity and commitment to others, Joe has devoted his life to service of Spirit and those seeking love, healing and spiritual growth.
Rev. Joe has shared his remarkable talents with students, clients, and audiences around the world; teaching, speaking, healing and conducting private and public demonstrations of evidential mediumship and Spirit Art deemed by many as 'Portraits from Heaven.' His exceptionally rare gifts make him one of the most sought-after mediums, consulting for numerous politicians, CEO's, celebrities and those seeking healing and insight.
As newly appointed Pastor of the Journey Within, Joe continues to support the dream and the mission of the much loved and respected Rev. Janet Nohavec and commits himself fully to the church and those who have passed to Spirit by being extremely detailed, factual and evidential in his readings.
With over two decades of experience, Joe has reached a heightened level of development and possesses the very rare ability to utilize all of his senses. In addition to being an extraordinary Medium, Joe is also a talented and expressive artist. With guidance from Spirit, he is able to draw recognizable and accurate portraits of departed loved ones without the use of photographs and without possessing any prior knowledge of them or their physical characteristics.
Rev. Joe has accumulated literally thousands of drawings with validating photographs over the course of his career making him one of the most accomplished Spirit Portrait artists in the world. He joins the ranks of other influential Spirit Portrait Artists like Coral Polge and Rita Berkowitz who have been instrumental in popularizing this rare and highly evidential & healing form of Mediumship.
He is also well known for his Soul Journey Auragraphs and has had the pleasure of creating scores of these intricate and colorful depictions of a soul’s complex journey for those seeking more spiritual lives.
Joseph hails from Boston and was born into an Irish Catholic family and has known the presence of Spirit in his life since infancy. Coming from a traditional Jesuit background and bound for priesthood, a role for which he thought he had been destined, Joe went into business as a builder/developer but later found himself called again to a life of service.
Joe found himself conflicted about his unusual abilities and at the threshold of ordination to become a permanent deacon, he left the Catholic seminary to embark on his newly-realized journey, searching tirelessly to understand the incredible value of his gifts. He emerged finally to embrace and develop his talents as a Medium, Healer and Spiritual Counselor, studying and working with world renowned teachers in Catholicism, Spiritualism, Buddhism and other spiritual modalities to enhance and utilize his natural abilities.
It is through his creativity that he brings forth the love of God and the Grace of Spirit to every discerning soul he meets. As a fine artist, sculptor, recording artist and published poet, Joe is diversely creative, and has been featured and quoted in a number of books. In his book of poems, prayers and songs, “The Edge of Wilderness”, Joe uses his gift of inspired imagery in written word to encourage us all to see our interdependence upon one another and to reach for the connections, relations and gifts of this life’s experiences.
Joe holds a BA in Philosophy from Boston College and performed his graduate work in Theology at Colgate Crozer Divinity School and St. Bernard's Institute, making him uniquely qualified to guide those who grapple with the conflicts of faith as they contemplate an exploration into the world of Mediumship.
